Judy Harper asked, "Beautiful post and beautiful flowers! Do you know the name of the flower that looks like a cherry enveloped in a netting heart? It is so delicate looking."

The plant is the Chinese Lantern

According to Capital Gardens:

The Chinese Garden is a "Bright orange, papery, lantern-shaped calyces, several to each long stem. Much in demand for winter arrangements. Exotic-looking flowers. HP - Hardy perennial. Height 60cm (2').

CULTURE: Sow February-March under glass or May-July in a cold frame or greenhouse. Flowers July-October the following year.

HINTS: Ideal for beds and borders, and for dried flowers. Prefers full sun.

Flowering/Fruiting Time: July-October"

You'll be happy to know that it is also called " Winter Cherry."
